Once again the Lake Geneva Yacht CLub has taken first place at the A Scow Nationals . Three races were finished at Lake Minnetonka with The Eagle taking top honors. Skipper Vincent Porter and his crew of Ryan Fitzgerald, Dave Navin, Chris Impens, and Greg Gifford took a 3rd, 2nd, 4th to take the cup. We also need to give a shout out to Tom Freytag who placed 4th overall. This was a great showing from LGYC, lets keep it up for the rest of the summer.
Peter Adam Crook, the 21-year-old son of LGYC members Barney and Lin Crook of Road Town, Tortola, the British Virgin Islands, is in Sochi, Russia, as a member of the BVI freestyle ski team in the halfpipe competition at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park. Adam (as he is known) is a former Woods School and Badger High School student, learned to ski at Grand Geneva, was a student at Geneva Lake Sailing School one summer, then moved to Colorado to finish school and ski full time. He qualified for the BVI Olympic team in August when he took tenth at the Freestyle Ski World Cup (halfpipe) in New Zealand. The Crooks joined LGYC in 2001, where Barney sailed an MC, owned a Melges 24 (with John Kivlin), and crewed on A-scows with Wendell Sherry and Mike Keefe.
