Fellow Lake Geneva Yacht Club Members:

As previously communicated, we were scheduled to be closed through Thursday, July 16 for paving.  We lost some time on the schedule this week due to the rain on Sunday and Monday.  Paving will be starting today, but will not be completed until Saturday morning.  Accordingly, the facility will remain closed Friday and Saturday, July 17-18.  Racing will be cancelled for these two days as well.  There will be no access to the property until Saturday afternoon.  Racing will resume Sunday, July 19, in accordance with the race calendar.  If there is sufficient interest, we will have NFP races for the C and MC fleets on Sunday morning in conjunction with the scheduled E fleet race. Please contact your fleet rep if interested.  The kitchen will be open on Sunday.

With the weather forecasted to be very warm late in the week, the new asphalt will take considerable   time to cool down.  While we expect to have access to the property late Saturday and Sunday, we will need to be very gentle on the pavement.  Please be careful not to turn your steering wheel on your car while sitting still and make sure that trailer jacks are not in direct contact with the pavement.

Please accept my apologies for the further delay.  We are doing everything that we can to get the project completed.

Fellow Lake Geneva Yacht Club Members:

In discussions with representatives of our general contractor, they indicated there will be significant work on the roadway Thursday, Friday and Saturday of this week.  They have asked that we limit our activities on the site.  Based on their recommendation, there will be no racing Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July 9-11th.  E Scows will race on Sunday, July 12th. The restaurant will be open Friday night, July 10th for dinner and Sunday lunch on July 12th, so please try to come by on either, or both, of these two dates.  We will be closed on Thursday dinner and Saturday lunch.

As previously planned, we will be closed next week, July 13-16th and will reopen Friday, July 17th for racing as well as meal service.

Please bear with us as we make this final push to get the roads and parking lots completed.

Fellow Lake Geneva Yacht Club Members:

We continued to make progress during the past week, but there still remains a considerable amount of finishing work to be completed.  Our general contractor assured us on Friday that completing our project is their highest priority.

Building Update
We received our permit from the health department this afternoon, so we can now start up our kitchen operations.  Food has been ordered and we will hold our ribbon cutting ceremony and Independence Day party on Friday, July 3rd. You will be receiving more detailed information very soon.  Until Friday, we will continue to have limited food and beverage service.

Our indoor spaces are receiving the final finishing touches.  Completion of the bar and installation of the numerous counter tops is our main priority with respect to the interior.  Our outdoor seating areas were fully furnished this past Friday.  If you have not been to the facility this past weekend, stop by and check it out.  It is taking shape.  As previously communicated, there will be sections of the building that will need to be shut down so work on can be completed.  We did have to close the bar area this past weekend due to the finishing work taking place on the bar.

Site/Boat Storage
Weather and the related scheduling of our excavating and paving contractors has held up the completion of the paving work.  As of today, rebuilding of the road is scheduled to take place starting July 9thth, with paving to start July 13th, again assuming the weather cooperates.

The sod was laid around the clubhouse this weekend.  That certainly has made a big impact on the appearance and should help to reduce the amount of dirt and mud around the clubhouse.  This will also go a long ways to taking some of the pressure we have had on the runoff issues.   We ask that you please stay off the new sod until it has established itself.

The Village of Fontana has asked us to move the A Scows from their parking lot so as to make those spaces available for the busy holiday weekend.  This will put further pressure on our already challenging parking situation at the club.  Again please bear with us and be aware that we may have to relocate some boats to accommodate everyone. We are storing boats on the East side of the property.  It’s a little chaotic right now and certainly not the cleanest, but we should be able to accommodate all our racing boats.

If you have not already done so, it would be a big help to the staff if you could complete your storage forms so that we can get spaces properly assigned.  The storage forms are available on the website.  Please note your forms can be completed and sent electronically or printed out and mailed.

Racing
If we are able to stay on the paving schedule noted above, we will likely cancel LGYC races from July 13th through July 16th.  Racing will resume Friday, July 17th.  We will keep you updated as we get closer to those dates.

The GLSS Dinghyfest Regatta will be held July 6-8th, as scheduled.  Please be sure to stop by to support our junior sailors and fleet.

See you on the water!

Fellow Lake Geneva Yacht Club Members:

We have made significant progress on our facility over the past two weeks, both the building and the grounds, but there is a considerable amount of finishing work to be completed.  We did commence our scheduled races on Friday, June 19th, so many members were at or around the clubhouse this weekend. It was good to see and chat with so many of you.

Building Update

Since we have received a conditional occupancy certificate this past Friday, we can now start using the facility as the finishing work continues.  Accordingly, there will be times that we will need to shut down sections of the building so work on certain areas can be completed.  The inside and outside bars, counter tops, furnishings and decorating are part of the “work in progress” stages.  It is expected that the deck furniture will be delivered later this week.

As yet, we do not have the permit from the health department to open the kitchen so we are unable to store food or cook in the kitchen.  After the installation this week of two sets of panels in the kitchen we should be able to obtain the permit by the end of the week.  We are ready to start up the kitchen as soon as we have the permit.   In the meantime, we will have a grill set up outside for burgers and brats.  Wine, beer and soft drinks will also be available.

Site/Boat Storage

The paving work has started, but we still need to remedy the soft spots on the drive from South Lake Shore Drive. We hope to have them fixed this week.  Once the base has been stabilized, we can complete the binder coat.  Weather will be key.  Rain is not our friend.

We are storing boats on the East side of the property.  It’s a little chaotic right now and certainly not the cleanest, but we should be able to accommodate our racing boats.

Racing

We are now racing all classes in accordance with the Race Calendar.  The calendar is posted on the website. Sailing Instructions have been sent out via email and will be posted on the notice board on the lower level of the clubhouse.

We are undergoing massive changes in everything that we do.  Our clubhouse is new and our grounds have been totally redesigned which also creates changes.  The Executive Committee is doing it’s very best to work through the changes in a thoughtful manner to best utilize our building and site.  Please be patient as these changes are being made.  We may not get everything right the first time and will need to adjust accordingly. Your comments and concerns are welcome, but I do ask that you address these comments to the members of the Executive Committee rather than our staff.  So, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or any member of the Executive Committee.  Thank you for your cooperation.

See you on the water!
