E. P. Ellwood Trophy

A tall and elegant silver loving cup set on a wood base, this trophy was donated by E. P. Ellwood in 1925 and is engraved “E. P. Elwood Novice Trophy” to be “presented annually to the Class C skipper having the second highest season’s standing who has never won a cup.” It was a second prize to the Adams Trophy, as the terms for the Adams were originally worded. Today, the skipper in overall fifth place receives this trophy. The donor sailed a 24-foot Class X the 1920s, and his name, though spelled Elwood on this trophy, is spelled Ellwood in the membership and fleet lists of that period and in current Trophy Committee records.
