William Bentsen Trophy

In 2024, Ellen Bentsen donated a perpetual trophy to Lake Geneva Yacht Club to be awarded to the winner of the annual Class E Spring Series in memory of her husband, William Bentsen (1930 – 2020). Bill campaigned his various E-scows (Madrigal, Bora) for a number of years at LGYC and was awarded the Commodore Gordon Bartels Trophy as season champion in 1963. The William Bentsen Trophy is a mid-century sterling silver vase, 8-1/2 inches tall (without the base), that was made in the 1940s by Quaker Silver Company in North Attleboro, Massachusetts. It rests on a black walnut base designed and created by Spencer Simms.
