Mayer-Gifford Trophy

This silver vase was a gift to the Yacht Club in 1929 from Frank G. Mayer, who specified that possession should go to the owner of the Class A yacht winning two out of three consecutive annual races. In 1932, Harry N. Gifford won the trophy for permanent possession, and in 1954 he redonated it as the Mayer-Gifford Trophy, to be sailed for under its original conditions. Records about the evolution of this trophy from one governed by the original conditions to one with perpetual status are incomplete and call for further research. Today, the Mayer-Gifford Trophy is awarded to the boat with the best score in the combined races on a Series A scheduled race day.
