Barbara Bishop Trophy

BARBARA BISHOP TROPHY

In 2016, Bill and Ellen Bentsen donated a perpetual trophy to the Lake Geneva Yacht Club in memory of Barbara Bishop (1949-2014), to be awarded to the first place crew in the Class C Series A Championship.  The trophy is a small sterling silver vase, that has a simple flare at the top, and a hallmark that identified it as having been created by Alexander Smith in 1962 in Birmingham, England.  The Bentsen’s bought the vase at the London Silver Vaults on Chancery Lane.  Its wooden base, painted black, was created by Bill Barrett and donated for the trophy by Bill and Lilly Barrett.  Barb Bishop, who had been a member of LGYC since 1979, was an enthusiastic crew in Class C for more than 25 years.  She also crewed in Class E and the M20, and she was a valued volunteer on the Publications and Communications Committee, where she produced the club’s yearbooks and designed and maintained the online Virtual Trophy Room.
